"Getaway asked local identity James Brayshaw to show us around Adelaide and its surrounds in a way we have never done on the show before.
Our journey started at Adelaide Airport, with the plan to enjoy a peaceful lunch in the Fleurieu Peninsula, near Sellicks Beach, courtesy of Heli Air. They offer Australia's broadest helicopter presence and specialise in media and aerial filming provision, but we were there for its tourism involvement.
They can go pretty much anywhere — the Barossa Valley is the most popular destination — but we decided to go somewhere different. It was a grand way to go out to lunch and fly over some of South Australia's most beautiful scenery, on the Fleurieu Lunch Loop.
The flight goes over the McLaren Vale and surrounding vineyards and olive groves. This is famous for its high quality wines and has more than 50 cellar doors for wine lovers on the trail. The Fleurieu Peninsula is a paradise for wine, water and wildlife.
Lunch was enjoyed at the Victory Hotel. It is 147 years old and its cellar is well known to wine-lovers. It has views across Sellicks Beach, across the ocean and along most of the peninsula. It's good to sit on the verandah and take your time over ordering food and wine, enjoying the wonderful scenery."
